Writing & Reading |
|
For Writing class each student will be issued a copy of Write Source 2000 which is used for both writing and grammar. A copy of Writing and Grammar and other classroom sets of textbooks and resources will be used for reference and practice.
For Reading class each student will be issued a copy of Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes anthology which has a variety of genres organized by common themes. The students will be reading novels which relate to those themes after a unit has been completed in the anthology. Students will be also reading at least two novels as a whole class.
In addition, each student is required to bring a library book of their own choice to both classes every day for regular silent reading. The requirement for outside class reading is a minimum of two chapter books per quarter and a written summary with book review form to be completed after reading each. Books read, summarized, and reviewed beyond the two required will earn the student extra credit points toward the reading grade.
Vocabulary from the assigned anthology genres and required novels will be used for spelling, usage, and definition quizzes.
