Definition of Inclusion

Inclusion is the commitment to educate each child to the maximum extent appropriate in the school and classroom he or she would attend if not disabled. It means bringing support services to the child rather than bringing the child to the support services.
In District 15, inclusion is part of a continuum of services for meeting the needs of students with disabilities. The decision to include a student in the regular education classroom is determined on an individual basis and reflects what is appropriate for meeting that student's educational needs. This decision is made by all members of the educational team, which includes the child's parents.
