Hello and welcome to our class home page!  My name is Janet Gruenwald, and this is my 7th year in district 15.  I'm very excited to share that in November of 2007 I achieved my National Board Certification, and I couldn't have done it without such great students and parents to support me!  For more information about what that means, you can visit here.  Otherwise, sit back, relax, and take a look around to see what we're up to!

Behavior Plan
At the beginning of the school year, our class wrote the following classroom rules:

1. Be a Good Listener
2. Be a Good Friend
3. Be Safe
4. Raise Your Hand to Share

We use the red, yellow, green stoplight to monitor our behavior.  Each student gets one warning before having to move his name to green on the stoplight, and a second warning before moving his name to yellow.  If a student is asked to move his name to red, he takes a break from the activity until ready to return, and a note is sent home to make you aware of what happened that day.
To recognize our students who make good choices in the class, we use a marble jar.  Each time a student makes a good choice or does something extra special, he can put a marble in the jar.  When our marble jar is full, we
celebrate as a whole class.

Homework

Reading Journals are due each Wednesday.  Every other month we will focus on a different reading strategy in our journals, and parents and students work together to read a story and complete the reading journal assignment.  You can download our reading strategy directions here.

Homework Calendar: Each month a homework calendar will be sent home with your child.  Activities include new concepts learned and reviewing concepts from previous months.  As you complete each activity, color it in on your homework calendar.  At the end of the month, return the calendar and activity sheets to school in your child's backpack.

April Homework Calendar:  English Spanish
Sounds & Letters DVD: Your child should be watching this video at least a few times a week to help learn our Jolly Phonics sounds and alphabet letters.
