Ways to Help Your Child Improve His/Her Comprehension!

- Read books to/with your child in the last 50 points of his/her lexile.

-While reading, have your child summarize after each chapter or few pages

-Have your child predict what he/she thinks will happen next

-Talk about the setting, characters, and the problems.

- Have your child put the events of the story in order.

-Talk about character motives

-While your child is reading, do not automatically give him/her words they do not know. Have him/her use context clues and/or their phonics to figure out the word first.

- Have your child read aloud

- READ READ READ!!
