The students of Room 208 come to school to:
  *learn *prepare for the future
  *make friends *work with others
  **have fun

We will do this by:
*listening & paying attention * staying on task
*being prepared & responsible *following directions
*showing respectful behavior *trying new things
We will do this because it will prepare us for a successful life and a good job.

Text Box: Accelerated Reader
District 15 has adopted a program to encourage and improve reading performance. Students are tested on vocabulary to determine an appropriate reading range at which the student is challenged but can read independently. Through Accelerated Reader, students are given the opportunity to choose books in this range. After completing the book, students take a short quiz to check for comprehension. Our classroom expectation is for students to pass at an 80% or higher level two books per month.

Science - Our units of study include electricity/magnetism, nutrition, rocks and minerals, habitats, and human growth and development. We incorporate curriculum from both the Foss and Delta hands on programs. The Harcourt textbook is used as a supplemental resource to reinforce learning standards.

Spelling - Our spelling curriculum comes from the Harcourt Reading/Language Series. Lesson pretests are done in class on Monday with all activities due on Thursday. Friday is our typical spelling test day.

Language - These lessons are taught through Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.) each day and a wide variety of writing exercises throughout the year. At times, students will take a piece of personal writing and refine it past editing and into the final copy phase of the writing process.
