Text Box: Please, please, please, help your child search for any books they have borrowed from me to read. If there are one or two that they want to read over the summer, no problem, just return them in the fall, but if they are done with them, please return them so other children can read them. Thank you….
Please send a bag to school with your child by next Friday so they are ready to start bringing home their gear the following week. Today was R on the ABC countdown, so we are nearing the end of both the alphabet and the school year.
Field Day is next Friday. Please remember to have your child dress appropriately. This includes sun screen. We will be outside all day. You might also want to send a water bottle that day.
There will not be a newsletter next week due to the short week and Field Day on Friday. I will send out a final newsletter with supply list some time the last week of school.
Text Box: Reading/Language Arts– Word Master results are in and frankly, I am astounded. I did expect us to make the top ten for the last meet. We tied for first. What I didn’t expect was to take fifth in the nation in the overall results for the year. The class has voted and I will be cooking my secret recipe Mississippi Mud Cake. I will do that sometime in the last week of school.
The class continues to work on the pioneer tic tac toe reading project. By now, the point of view cube should be finished, handed in, graded and handed back. Your child should almost have their second book/project finished. If you haven’t seen anything come home, you might want to question your child about their progress. A lot of time is being given in class to work on this, so you may not have seen much. This project will end no later than June 6th.
Next week is a Spelling week. Because we are bracketed with Memorial Day on Monday and Field Day on Friday, the spelling test will be the following Monday.
Math– The Polyhedraville colony is progressing rapidly. Buildings are being constructed, budgets are being strained. I will admit to a bit of bribery on Thursday. I gave any group who worked quietly a $1000 budget windfall. Almost all the groups earned it and my sanity stayed happily in place. Do not expect too much in the way of homework for the remaining class periods. I have a couple of integer lessons that I am holding on to in case we completely finish the colony before our last class period (June
Social Studies– I honestly laughed myself silly, watching all the kids in the wagon trains try to boss each other around as they tried to organize their supply lists and all the other tasks that had to be accomplished before they could start the westward journey. My hope is that they will be much more understanding of all that it takes to plan this summer’s family vacation.
The first wagon trains departed from Independence, Missouri today. Already, there is dissension amongst the settlers as they struggle to find water and deal with a water shortage. I hope your child will keep you posted on the progress throughout the journey.
FYI– all graded classwork is now being used to earn points to move the wagon trains forward on their journey. Students will receive a grade of 1-10 on each assignment. That is then multiplied with the energy factor of each wagon train (EF) which allows the groups to move along the trail.
Science– we are now done with science for the remainder of the school year.
