Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing spring break. This year seems to be just flying by. We have completed our science unit on variables and scientific method and as soon as the weather perks up we’ll be flying our balsa gliders outside.
I am so very proud of our class and their desire to show support for those in Japan who have been impacted by the recent tsunami. We are in the process of helping Hanna Murakami fold 1000 paper cranes to send to children in Japan. Additionally, the student council is donating the proceeds from the school store to Japan relief efforts. For each dollar sold a paper crane will be hung in the café.
Next week we will begin a mini-unit on genocide and the Holocaust that will culminate with our trip to see “The Diary of Anne Frank” at the Metropolis theatre. We are reading “Number the Stars” in class. This year’s unit focuses on the concept of Identity and understanding who we are and the basics of how we classify and stereotype.
The ISP/Orbital research and work are progressing nicely. I highly encourage your children to submit rough drafts to me, or seek your assistance in proofreading and editing.
As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Regards, Ms. Silver |
