Civics Belief Program The Willow Bend staff believes that learning citizenship skills is critical to a child's education. For a successful democracy, citizens must take responsibility for their behavior and the consequences that follow. We are committed to a high level of behavior by all members of the Willow Bend community. Instruction in the Willow Bend beliefs and the expectation that all children act accordingly is a central part of Willow Bend School. The Civics Belief Program consists of the Willow Bend Pledge, Courtesy Catchers, Virtue Rallies, Behavior Management, Conflict Resolution, Name Badges, and Class Meetings.
Willow Bend School-wide Behavior Plan Three years ago the Willow Bend community developed and implemented a school-wide behavior plan for non-special education students. The plan is to assist those students exhibiting behavior issues that impact overall school performance. Children who are not successful with the basic class behavior plan are often successful on the school-wide plan. The Behavior Plan is a home/school plan where students work on specific goals in efforts to have a productive day. The plan is based on a level system (levels 1-4) where a student can move up or down the levels depending on the success they have had on any given day. The goal is to move up, where increased rights and no restrictions are placed on the student. The Behavior Plan is based on a reward system. Rainbow Program The Rainbows Program is a support group for children who have experienced a loss through separation of parents, divorce, or the death of a parent. The program provides children the opportunity to meet new friends who share similar experiences; to have trained, caring teachers be present for the children while they sort through and understand their grief; and to help them come to a healthy acceptance of what has happened in their family. The program begins in the Fall and concludes in the spring. The children meet during the lunch hour for a total of twelve sessions.
