About myself
My career in teaching began in 1977 at Joel Wood School in District 15. Though my teaching experience includes grades 2-6, I have been a sixth grade teacher at Paddock School since 1985. I hold a bachelor's degree in both Recreation/Parks Administration and Elementary Education from Western Illinois University. My master's degree is in Curriculum and Supervision from Concordia College. My family and I are residents of Palatine. If not seen enjoying time with family and friends, I'm probably out golfing or in my fishing boat on some lake searching for "The Big Walleye.”

Science
My program is a blend of experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on activities integrated with the content of the curriculum. To start the year, I place a heavy emphasis on the concepts, principles, and processes of the scientific method. Our major units of study include Color and Light, Earth Processes, and Earth/Moon/Sun. Health lessons will also be included as part of our study.

History
Our course of study takes us from the prehistoric period to modern times. We focus on the political systems, economic systems, political events, and geographic factors that have shaped our history. Integrated with our language arts program, students will engage in a history project in the spring.

Language Arts
In Language Arts, our literature program is an integrated curriculum of reading and writing skills. I also read a variety of books to my class, introducing different types of literature. Monthly goals are expected to be met in our districtwide program, Reading Counts. We set individual and class benchmarks to motivate improvement in both grammar and spelling skills

Math
The regular sixth grade mathematics textbook, McDougal Little Middle School Course 1, covers the following units: Whole Numbers and Integers, Decimals and Exponents, Percents and Number Theory, Fractions and Mixed Numbers, Algebra Readiness, and Geometry. Some of our students are sectioned into a class using McDougal Little Middle School Course 2. MAP Skills Test scores are used to place these students in this section. This is a seventh grade curriculum..

Homework
All homework assignments are to be recorded in the Paddock Planner. This is a useful tool for completing assignments on time. After assignments are finished, they should be checked off to help in remembering what is done and what is not. The Planner is also a good place to record other reminders regarding school events and other obligations.
